Hi! I am Lysandra Weber, Owner/Designer of geekchicfashion, a modern, chic + comfortable independent women's clothing label, handmade in the USA.
I created geekchicfashion for women like me (and women like you), women who have busy lives, but want to look good and feel comfortable. Our jersey skirts and tops are just that: comfortable, versatile yet chic wardrobe staples that are easily dressed up for work and dressed down for play.
Currently, and as geekchicfashion grows, I am committed to maintaining the highest level of ethics in the production of my line whether that's hiring a team right here in NC or small batch manufacturing in the US with full transparency. Currently I make each item in Pittsboro NC, with my graphic tees being screen printed in Raleigh, NC by a husband and wife team, so local and Made in the US are integral parts of my business.
"Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself." - Coco Chanel
I believe wholeheartedly in accepting the body you are in and confidently wearing clothes that make YOU feel good. I make sizes S-3XL in most styles because I believe women throughout that spectrum (and beyond) deserve stylish, ethically produced clothes. I also believe you shouldn't wait until you've lost/gained that last 10lbs before you get a style you love. Life is too short to hate that beautiful body of yours, so let's find pieces that work for your body together!
Women in STEM
If you've browsed my product listings, you know that each of my skirts and many of my tops have a geeky name. I don't do this to solely to be cheeky, but as a reminder to women who pursue STEM field that you don't have to be just one of the boys. You can embrace your femininity in a way that still allows your geekiness to shine.
I began sewing when I was nine with my great aunt and mother's help. They both made their own clothes in their youth and taught me the basics. In recent years, when off-the-shelf fashion didn't fit my personal aesthetic or lifestyle, I put my skills to work designing and making clothes for myself. My then-coworkers loved my geometric inspired designs so I made the leap to grow geekchicfashion into a business (oh, and work from home with my super cute son #babydesigner and daughter #littleladyboss)
I know many people think handmade clothing may not meet commercial standards, but I promise you that I am committed to high quality construction and beautifully sewn designs. I am a lifelong learner and continue to hone my skills as a designer, experimenting with new fabrics, sewing techniques and pattern designs.
In case you're interested in my "formal credentials", I'm a business nerd! I received my BS in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and my MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina where I concentrated in Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Enterprise. I've worked at a variety of small businesses throughout my career, helping to increase awareness and drive growth...now I get to put my skills to work for you!
